Simple Mocktails You Should Try

simple mocktails you should try

It’s not summer until you have an ice-cold fruity drink.

While many people enjoy alcohol, others have to be more cautious about what they drink. For example, people who have received alcohol addiction treatment have to avoid alcohol completely. Even if you don’t have a drinking problem, cutting down on alcohol or avoiding it entirely can be beneficial. However, as an addiction treatment center in Texas, we know that mocktails are a great alternative to alcoholic drinks, and these can actually make it easier for people both in and out of recovery to stay sober. We’re sharing five simple mocktails you should try.

What’s A Mocktail?

A mocktail is a cocktail without liquor or alcohol. Mocktail also refers to non-alcoholic versions of alcoholic drinks. Instead of alcohol, these drinks contain juices, sodas, sparkling waters, and other non-alcoholic ingredients that are mixed in the proper ratios to provide flavor. Mocktails can be served at restaurants or bars, or they can be made at home. The purpose of making simple mocktails at home is that it can save you from spending a good chunk of money at restaurants, and it’ll also keep you away from situations that may tempt you to drink alcohol.

5 Simple Mocktail Recipes You Can Make at Home

Fortunately for those who have undergone alcohol detox or treatment, there’s a new wave of support for mocktails that have inspired hundreds of delicious recipes. Below are five of the best mocktails you can make for yourself and your loved ones at home.

Magic Mango Mocktail

Our first mocktail is going to be a sweet, cold, and refreshing non-alcoholic and guilt-free drink that’s perfect for summer.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 oz of lemon juice
  • 3-4 slices of cucumber
  • 1 oz of syrup (honey syrup is delicious)
  • 2 oz Sprite
  • A sprig of rosemary
  • 1.5 oz mango puree (you can also choose to take 1.5 oz of mango and mash it up to make a puree

Instructions:

Mix up the cucumber and syrup at the bottom of the shaker or cup, then add the mango puree and the lime juice. Add ice and shake the cup or shaker. Strain into a cup, add Sprite, and enjoy.

Lazy Lemon Mocktail

This lemony fruit mocktail lives up to its name because it only takes five minutes to make.

What you’ll need:

  • 6 oz of lemonade (can be plain, raspberry, strawberry, etc.)
  • A handful of berries or chopped up fruit of your choice
  • 1/3 cup of fresh mint (finely chopped)
  • 2 oz of sparkling water
  • Lemon slices to garnish

Instructions:

Mix the lemonade and sparkling water in a cup. Chop up the mint and put it on the top of the drink (don’t stir). Garnish the top with lemon slices and your favorite fruits.

Genius Grapefruit Mocktail

We’ve coined this grapefruit mocktail recipe “genius” because of its refined taste and excellent blend of ingredients.

What you’ll need:

  • 2 oz of grapefruit juice
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 oz mint
  • .75 oz of agave syrup or honey syrup
  • 3 oz Sprite

Instructions:

Chop up the mint as much as you can (the smaller the pieces, the better). Combine the grapefruit juice and the syrup at the bottom of a cup and stir, as this will make it easier to mix up the syrup with the rest of your liquids. Add your lime juice and Sprite, stir, and enjoy.

Pretty in Pineapple Mocktail

Not only will you love the fruity flavors of this mocktail, but you’ll also enjoy all the colors that go into it. Grenadine syrup is a commonly used ingredient in mocktails because it adds a nice pink or reddish tint while giving drinks a tart and sweet flavor.

What you’ll need:

  • 1/2 cup of pineapple juice (use puree for a slushie consistency)
  • 1 cup of Sprite (sparkling water or club soda also works)
  • 5 large ice cubes
  • 3 tbsp non-alcoholic Grenadine syrup
  • Strawberry chunks
  • 1 tbsp mint

Instructions:

Add the ice cubes to your cup and add ingredients in this order to get a nice color effect: pineapple juice, Sprite (or club soda or sparkling water), then Grenadine syrup. Chop up your mint and garnish the top of your drink with the chopped mint and some strawberry slices.

Orange Juice Mocktail

Nothing says summer like a zesty, citrusy mocktail. Here’s an orange mocktail recipe that’ll have you dreaming of orange trees and long summer days on the beach.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed is preferred, but any will do)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup Sprite (sparkling water or ginger ale also works)
  • Sugar (optional)
  • 1 oz mint
  • 4-5 large ice cubes
  • Orange wedge
  • Pinch of salt
  • Orange zest

Instructions:

Mix the orange juice with the lemon juice in a cup or bowl (add some sugar in the mixture if you prefer a sweeter drink). Pour ice cubes in a cup and add the juice mixture until it’s half full. Pour your Sprite, sparkling water, or ginger ale into the glass and add a pinch of salt. Crush or chop some mint leaves and stir into the mixture. Garnish your drink with an orange wedge or orange zest.

While mocktails are fun and delicious, they aren’t for everyone. If you’re in early addiction recovery or feel as if drinking mocktails can trigger cravings or your desire to drink, then avoid them. Understandably, mocktails can remind some people of alcohol. On the other hand, they can also be beneficial alternatives for alcohol that can keep people in recovery or practicing abstinence from alcohol sober.

If you’re struggling with a drinking problem, your safest bet is to seek out professional treatment. Do not ignore the signs of addiction nor attempt to quit drinking on your own. It’s okay to ask for help, and there are tons of resources available for people with alcoholism. Banyan Texas offers medical detox and residential treatment that have helped numerous people achieve long-term sobriety.
