Addiction can negatively impact a person’s life in many ways.
The show followed a group of Italian American partygoers from New York and New Jersey. The show focused on their time at the Jersey Shore beach, documenting their mishaps with alcohol, partying, and relationship drama. Since the show aired in 2009, Mike “The Situation’s” drug and alcohol addiction became more apparent. As his fame grew, Mike made more appearances on screen. After suffering an injury while performing on Dancing with The Stars, he became addicted to the painkillers that were prescribed to him. However, lots has happened between then and now, and it’s safe to say that a Mike “The Situation” update is in order.
As a substance abuse treatment center in Pompano, we celebrate every addiction recovery story and continuously advocate for addiction treatment.

News on Mike “The Situation’s” Sobriety
While 2020 has been fraught with various hardships, the coronavirus being the most prominent, there are successes that can be celebrated. For “The Situation” in particular, his ongoing sobriety since receiving addiction treatment definitely calls for a celebration. After several visits to rehab between 2012 and 2015, Mike finally completed treatment for a painkiller addiction. During his sobriety, The Situation rejoined his on-screen family in the Jersey Shore reboot “Jersey Shore: Family Vacation”. He was removed from the show to complete an eight-month sentence for tax evasion in 2019.
Despite the setbacks, this update on Mike “The Situation’s” recovery ends on a happy note. After completing his sentencing, The Situation and Lauren Sorrentino became Recovery Advocates at Banyan at the end of 2019. The partnership was created to spread the word about the importance and benefits of addiction treatment. Although Lauren hasn't personally struggled with addiction, she does have experience dealing with substance abuse. Losing her brother to an overdose and her long relationship with Mike equips her to support her husband in his recovery.
But that’s not all of the good news. The happy couple was proud to announce that Baby Sorrentino is due to arrive in May 2021. The couple shared this good news with their followers on Instagram in late November.
