First started in 1989, National Recovery Month has grown into a celebration of all things recovery.
The month honors those who have gotten sober, those who are in treatment, and treatment professionals who make the healing possible. Recovery Month serves as both a celebration of recovery and a reminder that there are still people who need help getting addiction treatment. Our treatment professionals at Banyan Detox are here to help support those in treatment during Recovery Month and beyond. This year, we’re celebrating the 2018 Recovery Month theme “Join the Voices for Recovery: Invest in Health, Home, Purpose, and Community.” Below are some tips for celebrating 2018’s National Recovery Month in September.

Start a Dialogue
Having a dialogue about recovery with friends, family members, and loved ones within your community can help raise awareness about the struggles of drug and alcohol addiction. We suggest holding conversations tuned into this year’s theme that discuss the growth that people can make in their recovery. We also encourage you to celebrate Recovery Month by honoring those who have recovered from alcoholism, drug addiction, and mental illness. You can also watch PSAs and share them around your social media community to get the conversation started.
Attend an Event
There are many events being held nationwide in honor of National Recovery Month. Some events are celebrating recovery, while others are destigmatizing the struggles of addiction. You can click here to find events nearby. Bring friends, family, and community members to events to increase awareness.
