Lisa Marie Presley Opens Up About Her Past Addiction Struggles

The late Elvis Presley was well known to have struggled with addiction.

Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of Elvis Presley, has written a foreword for the book, The United State of Opioids: A Prescription for Liberating A Nation In Pain by Harry Nelson. She discusses her own struggles with addiction.

Lisa, writes, “I’m not perfect. My father wasn’t perfect, no one’s perfect. It’s what you do with it after you learn and then you try to help others with it.” In 2008, Lisa first became addicted when she was given a short-term prescription for pain when she was recovering from giving birth to her twin daughters and felt that she needed to keep taking them.

The 51 year old says she wanted to go public to help others who are struggling. Being unsure about sharing a personal topic, she never really publicly spoken about her own struggles with opioids and painkillers, until now. She doesn’t want people to suffer silently and hopes that with her being so open about her own addiction struggles, that people can focus their attention on the opioid epidemic.

Lisa Marie Presley may have suffered silently, but you don’t have to. We are proud of Lisa for her honesty and encouragement for people to talk about their stories and to shed a light on this epidemic.
