The 31-year-old singer, Lizzo, is known for her relatable music, bright colored outfits, and being body positive, but now she is opening up about her struggle with depression.
Lizzo discussed her depression in a series of powerful posts on Instagram saying, “I’m depressed and there’s no one I can talk to because there’s nothing anyone can do about it. Life hurts.” She captioned the post by saying, “I self-love so hard because everything feels like rejection. It feel [sic] the whole world be ghostin me sometimes…” She noted that “this too shall pass.”
This goes to show you that no matter your success, you still can have low moments, but you can’t let that stop you. In another post, breaking down in tears, Lizzo stated in her video, “After working on being emotionally honest, I’ve used sadness as a tool for gratitude. It’s humbling and I’m grateful that I’m able to feel these emotions, because I know that because of the sadness, I’m gonna be able to feel joy.” We love how Lizzo is remaining hopeful, despite the fact that she wasn’t feeling her best.
Thank you, Lizzo, for being so open about your struggles and starting a conversation on the subject with your fans that many still think is too taboo to discuss. The more we talk about mental health, the less taboo it becomes, and the more people can help themselves and others.
