As the months become warmer and the days get a little bit longer, we know that summer has finally arrived.
The official start of summer is June 21, but it seems that the season is already underway. With summer comes plenty of fun, but also a fair share of temptation. Long days on the water, holidays such as the Fourth of July, and many other events can be triggering for a newly sober individual. If you’re ready to enjoy a sober summer, you will need to make sure you are always working on your sobriety. At Banyan Detox, we’re here to help. We’re the top choice for addiction treatment, and our treatment professionals have compiled their top tips for having a safe and sober summer.
Join an Alumni Program
Whether you are newly sober, or you have been sober for some time, an alumni group can be a great resource. Our Alumni Recovery groups help combine sobriety and fun, with the perfect options for summertime sober fun. People join alumni programs to connect with other sober individuals, find sober activities, and maintain mutual accountability for sustained sobriety.
Keep Up with Meetings
Even after completing inpatient, outpatient, or IOP rehab, there is still considerable work that must be done to maintain sobriety. At Banyan Detox we suggest continuing with meetings. The moment you stop going to meetings is the moment you put yourself on track for dangerous situations, so don’t take a summer break from your meetings.
Know Your Triggers & Have a Plan
Certain summertime activities, holidays, and events can all be triggering to sobriety. The Fourth of July, summertime concerts, and a day at the beach can all uproot old triggers of substance abuse. However, you can fight these triggers and avoid relapse. Rely on your sponsor, therapist, and meeting support system to help support your sobriety. Consider keeping gratitude and accountability journals to keep everything in perspective.
