Telehealth for Addiction and Recovery

Our team at Banyan Treatment Centers Heartland understands how hard some patients have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Although much has changed, we’re especially aware of how many people in addiction recovery have had their programs put on hold because of COVID-19. In addition to the pandemic, there are many other factors that can hinder a person’s recovery. Among social distancing and quarantining, other challenges like busy schedules, work, and family have also prevented patients from attending their much-needed drug treatment programs. Additionally, the isolation and anxiety caused by the pandemic can also make it difficult for a person to leave their home. Fortunately, our drug rehab in Illinois offers telehealth for addiction and recovery.

What Is Telehealth Rehabilitation for Addiction?

Telehealth refers to the use of technology in both clinical and non-clinical settings to offer patients care. When it comes to addiction, telehealth is an umbrella term that defines the use of devices like smartphones, tablets, laptops, computers, apps, and the internet to connect patients and our addiction treatment specialists. Telehealth services allow patients to communicate with their healthcare providers no matter where they are and continue their treatment programs without missing a beat. Offering online treatment options for people in addiction recovery is important now more than ever, especially considering the many restrictions and challenges of this pandemic. Banyan Heartland is one of the drug rehab centers that has incorporated telehealth access to care for those in need of substance abuse treatment.

How Our Telehealth Program Can Help

As a Banyan rehab in Gilman with years of experience in treating substance use disorders, we understand the importance of consistency, reliability, and accountability in a facility and treatment program. Many addicts struggle in the early stages of recovery when they don’t receive additional assistance. Many times, the temptations and triggers for relapse are present in patients’ homes. Telehealth reduces these risks and eliminates the worry of not being able to connect with our team or recovery advocates during tough times.

Additionally, telehealth for addiction and recovery offers direct access to treatment. It’s easy for patients in our outpatient telemedicine programs to make appointments and communicate with their therapists. Scheduling, staying on track, and being in constant communication with our team are also made simple. Virtual addiction treatment is adaptable and works with patients who have careers, families, and other obligations. When more flexible forms of treatment aren’t available, people with other responsibilities are unable to divide their time to get the help they need. Our online addiction treatment changes that.

Additionally, our telemedicine treatment offers a simple way to get care without commuting. Having to drive far distances can easily discourage someone from doing anything, even receiving drug or alcohol treatment. Patients who are interested in our inpatient drug treatment may hesitate to reach out because of a long commute. As a result, they may either never receive treatment or choose another facility that may not suit their needs. Online access to substance abuse treatment is perfect for patients in recovery who are unable to commute or have other responsibilities that may otherwise keep them from getting help.

How Our Telehealth for Substance Abuse Works

Patients receiving substance abuse telehealth services can communicate with their therapists and receive care via Zoom. This is a free app that allows people to video chat and talk online. This app can be downloaded on devices like smartphones, tablets, laptops, and computers. Patients must use a device that has internet access, and they must download this app. Therapists will then set up three hours of therapy three days a week as well as an hour of one-on-one therapy with clients per week. All of these sessions are to be conducted via Zoom. We also ask that patients attend therapy sessions in privacy. Others should not be able to listen to or participate in any of these meetings unless arranged by the therapist.

Our telehealth services for addiction also include faith-based therapy sessions in which patients can experience spiritual growth that can assist them throughout their recovery. Our Faith in Recovery (FIR) groups provide clients with realistic relapse prevention strategies and a faith-based perspective on recovery that they can utilize for the rest of their lives. During Faith in Recovery groups, patients gain a better understanding of faith-based principles, and they can use these principles to sustain their sobriety.

Through our FIR resources, we hope our patients will develop or restore their relationships with God as well as gain an understanding of His purpose for their lives. During group sessions, our Chaplain will also discuss areas including forgiveness, relapse prevention, gratitude, patience, guilt, shame, self-control, and any other challenges that patients may be struggling with. And while our FIR groups are Christian-based, individuals of all faith backgrounds are welcome to join us.
