Telehealth Services for Substance Abuse

Banyan Treatment Centers Palm Springs is dedicated to the well-being of our patients, which means doing everything in our power to help our clients achieve long-term sobriety. As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, our facility saw a major change in the way that addiction treatment programs are being conducted. In order to comply with the safety guidelines set in place and to keep our patients out of harm’s way, we’ve had to adjust our approach to substance abuse treatment. To combat the changes caused by the pandemic and other challenges, we’re now offering telehealth services for substance abuse.

What Is Telehealth for Addiction?

Generally, telehealth is an umbrella term used to describe the use of technology and the internet to provide healthcare to people. Although telemedicine treatment has been around for a while, the COVID-19 pandemic has made it a more prominent form of treatment today. Telehealth access to care is applicable to all kinds of healthcare fields, including the addiction treatment field. Our drug rehab Palm Springs, CA, is aware that the anxiety, stress, and isolation that’s resulted from the pandemic has contributed to relapse in many recovering addicts. Additionally, there are many temptations or triggers that may present themselves at home that can make recovery even more difficult. In order to help our patients and offer them a way to stay connected remotely, we incorporated a telehealth program in our levels of substance abuse treatment.

How Our Online Treatment Programs Work

The goal of our telehealth rehabilitation services is to help patients stay on track with their drug treatment programs remotely. Not only do our outpatient telemedicine programs eliminate the need to commute, but they also improve communication between our team and patients. Clients in our telemedicine outpatient rehab programs meet for three hours a day, three days a week, with their counselors. They also have one-hour sessions weekly to discuss the patient’s progress and anything they may be struggling with.

Our counselors use a video chatting application called Zoom to conduct these virtual sessions with clients. Patients require access to the internet or WiFi and must use devices with a camera, audio, and a microphone. Suitable devices include smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers. We ask that patients participate in their sessions alone and in a quiet space. No one else should be able to jump on or participate in these calls.

In addition to offering our substance abuse treatment online, we also offer spiritual guidance for recovery to patients in our telehealth program. Banyan Palm Springs has added Faith in Recovery group sessions to our telehealth services to help patients heal spiritually as well as physically from addiction. During these sessions, patients will have the opportunity to discuss topics like forgiveness, relapse prevention, gratitude, patience, guilt, shame, self-control, and more. Patients will learn faith-based relapse prevention skills and have the opportunity to restore or build a relationship with God. Individuals of all faith and religious backgrounds are welcome.
