Telehealth Rehabilitation for Substance Abuse

As more changes are being made due to the coronavirus pandemic, Banyan Treatment Centers Philadelphia has also had to adapt. We understand that many of our patients are wary of returning to in-person sessions at our facility. However, although necessary, any disruption in our clients’ treatment can significantly impact their progress. Because we want to see our patients succeed while complying with safety guidelines and any other challenges that may present themselves, our drug rehab in Philadelphia is introducing telehealth rehabilitation for substance abuse.

Telehealth for Addiction

Telehealth is the use of technology and the internet by healthcare providers to provide treatment to their patients. From smartphones to computers, as long as patients have internet access, they’re able to connect with their doctors, or in our case, addiction treatment specialists for care. Utilizing telehealth therapy services in the substance abuse treatment field has been especially important considering all of the guidelines implemented as a result of COVID-19. Although we wholeheartedly support and comply with these safety guidelines, we also realize how the isolation, anxiety, and separation caused by this pandemic can hinder a recovering addict’s progress. As a result, we’ve applied the many technological advancements that many enjoy in their personal time to our addiction treatment services.

The Pros of Online Treatment Programs for Addiction

As a drug rehab in Philly with years of experience in treating a variety of substance use disorders, we know how vital consistency, structure, and stability are in addiction recovery. When these key components are removed, the person’s progress is then compromised. Not only has the coronavirus pandemic affected many recovering addicts, but other day-to-day activities can also impede their progress. These things may include busy schedules, caring for family, keeping up with work, staying on track at school, and more. Below are some ways that our telehealth program can help patients stick with their programming while juggling their other responsibilities.

A major issue for patients is commuting. Whether they live far away from our facility or are unable to leave their obligations in time to attend treatment, commuting can be a hassle. Additionally, commuting is also a major reason why many addicts don’t get help or attend a specific rehab. We would hate for any of our patients to struggle to reach us or to choose a different facility that may not meet their needs. Our telehealth rehabilitation for substance abuse eliminates the need for commuting and offers patients a more flexible schedule.

Speaking of flexible schedules, patients who have other obligations may find it difficult to keep up with their treatment. For this reason, we offer IOP and PHP treatment for patients who have school, work, and families to keep up with or want to slowly transition back to their everyday routines as they recover. We wanted to take flexibility a step further by offering telehealth for substance abuse that eliminates the need for in-person sessions while maintaining the level of communication and support that our patients are accustomed to.

Telehealth Access to Care at Banyan Philadelphia

Telehealth use for addiction has allowed our licensed therapists and treatment specialists to stay connected to patients no matter what the situation. Having access to our team at home provides our clients with an additional level of support to help them cope with any triggers or temptations that may present themselves. However, although our telehealth substance abuse services are beneficial for many patients, they may not be suitable for everyone. Our specialists determine the level of treatment suitable for clients depending on the results of their clinical assessments. These assessments are the first thing that patients do when they’re admitted to our facility.

Our telehealth rehabilitation for substance abuse offers patients in our rehab programs access to our recovery resources at home. Although we offer personalized treatment through our other levels of addiction care, our telehealth program takes it a step further. This program includes three hours of intensive treatment three days a week. Therapists will also schedule weekly hour-long sessions with patients to go over their progress and discuss any of their struggles.

All of our online treatment programs are to be conducted via Zoom, a video chatting app that’s entirely free for patients to download and can be used on smartphones, tablets, laptops, and computers with access to the internet. Patients are expected to treat these online sessions as they would in-person sessions. They must be prepared to stay fully committed for the three hours of treatment and should join these meetings in a private and quiet setting. No one else should be able to see, hear, or participate in these sessions.

Additionally, not only do we cater to our patients’ physical recovery from addiction, but also to their mental and spiritual recovery, as well. Included in our telehealth services are Faith in Recovery (FIR) group sessions where patients can develop self-awareness and experience spiritual growth. During Faith in Recovery group sessions, clients will develop practical relapse prevention skills as well as a faith-based perspective on recovery they can take with them for the rest of their lives.

We understand that finding purpose in recovery can also be challenging, which is why we assist our patients in developing or restoring their relationships with God and learning what His purpose is for their lives. During group sessions, our Chaplain discusses topics including forgiveness, relapse prevention, gratitude, patience, guilt, shame, self-control, and any other concerns or struggles that patients may be facing. Additionally, although our FIR groups are Christian-based, individuals of all religious or faith backgrounds are welcome to join us.

We’ve incorporated telehealth services for addiction at our facility to offer patients an opportunity to continue their treatment no matter where they are. Whether it’s the pandemic or any other issue, we want our patients to know that we’re always available to help.
