Ben Affleck Admits To Relapsing After A Year Of Sobriety

Since the early 90’s, Ben Affleck has been struggling with alcoholism including on and off spouts of sobriety.

In the mid 90s, he became sober but veered off the path of sobriety until he sought residential addiction treatment for his issues in 2001 and then again in 2017. In 2018, Affleck relapsed again and was sober until now.

After one year of sobriety, Ben Affleck relapsed again this past weekend. He attended a Hollywood Halloween party where it appeared that he was stumbling and had to use the side of an SUV to hold himself steady while waiting to walk to another vehicle. Affleck admits to the relapse saying, “It happens. It was a slip. But I’m not going to let it derail me.”

Learning From Ben Affleck’s Relapse

It’s not easy to admit that you made a mistake, but it’s good that Ben is owning up to them. You should never feel guilty or humiliated for relapsing. Instead, use those feelings to motivate yourself to get back on track. If you or a loved one has relapsed, reach out to friends and family for help. This is not a step backwards, but a step towards your progress on your road to recovery.

Like Affleck said in his Instagram after getting out of rehab in 2018, “Battling any addiction is a lifelong and difficult struggle. Because of that, one is never really in or out of treatment. It is a full-time commitment.”

If you or someone you know is struggling with alcoholism or drug addiction, or has currently suffered from a relapse, there is a way out. Recovery is possible and can be obtained at professional drug and alcohol addiction treatment centers like ours.
