New synthetic drugs are emerging in what seems like every day in the illicit drug market. Foxy Methoxy is a funny name for a not-so-funny street drug that’s slowly making headway among teens and young adults. Despite risky Foxy Methoxy effects, the drug’s mood and energy-boosting effects are too addicting to deny for some. Today, we’re looking into Foxy Methoxy and how it gained a foothold in the drug market.
What Is Foxy Methoxy?
Foxy Methoxy is one of the many street names for a synthetic drug named 5-methoxy-N, N-diisopropyltryptamine (5-MeO-DIPT). Also known as Foxy and Foxy Moxy, Foxy Methoxy is abused for its hallucinogenic effects. It belongs to a class of drugs called hallucinogen tryptamines and shares similarities with other tryptamines like psilocybin and psilocin (shrooms).
Foxy the drug is usually available as a powder, capsule, or tablet, which are meant to be taken orally. Some users might also attempt to increase the intensity and onset of side effects by crushing and snorting Foxy pills, as well. The powder is usually placed into capsules or pressed into tablets before it’s sold on the streets.
Some Foxy Moxy pills contain powders mixed with blue, green, purple, tan, orange, gray, or pink powders to give them different colors. Foxy tablets may also be embossed or stamped with logos like a spider or alien. The most common way to use Foxy Moxy is by consuming it orally, with usual doses ranging from 6 to 20 milligrams (mg).
In addition to oral administration, the drug may also be smoked or crushed and snorted. Foxy drug side effects usually kick in after 20 to 30 minutes after ingestion, peak after about 60 to 90 minutes, and can last anywhere from 3 to 6 hours.

Foxy Drug Effects
One of the most popular hallucinogenic drugs on the market, Foxy Methoxy is abused for its hallucinogenic-like effects, often as a substitute for MDMA. Doses as small as 4 mg are shown to produce effects, which can range in duration and severity depending on the amount taken.
Some common side effects of Foxy Methoxy include:
- Hallucinations
- Euphoria
- Increased energy
- Nausea and/or vomiting
- Stomach discomfort or upset
- Diarrhea
- Pupil dilation
- Hyperreflexia (hyperactive flexing of the tendons and muscles)
- Talkativeness
- Emotional enhancement
- Increased empathy for others
- Impaired judgment
Because Foxy diminishes users’ judgment, high-risk sexual activity is another possible outcome. Foxy Moxy also comes with a risk of overdose, an issue that’s been reported several times in users who took several doses of the drug after initially feeling no effects.
While Foxy Methoxy was made an illegal and controlled substance in April 2003 by the Drug and Food Administration (FDA), it still circulates in club drug settings. Foxy was specifically categorized as a Schedule I substance under the Controlled Substances Act. This drug schedule includes other drugs like heroin and MDMA that have a high potential for abuse and addiction and serve no medical purpose in the U.S.
Signs of Foxy Drug Abuse
Foxy abuse is most common among teens and young adults. Like Ecstasy and other club drugs, Foxy Moxy is usually used at raves, nightclubs, music festivals, and other similar social events. Because the use and purchase of club drugs like MDMA are more common in these settings, Foxy Methoxy drug dealers may capitalize on the popularity of these substances by selling Foxy and other uncontrolled substances in these environments.
With that said, Foxy is still around, and being able to recognize the signs of its abuse allows you to help someone else who might need professional assistance to quit. What’s more, considering that this is another illegal drug that contains various ingredients (usually unknown to users), catching the signs of abuse can save someone from a fatal overdose.
Common signs of Foxy Methoxy abuse include:
- Hallucinations
- Euphoria
- Increased energy that’s unusually long-lasting
- Nausea and/or vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Mood swings
- Depression and oversleeping when not using
- Pupil dilation
