Jessica Simpson’s New Memoir Discusses Her Past Addiction

Jessica Simpson’s career started as a young teen pop artist before getting into acting on television. Eventually, she because a star on the reality show, “Newly Weds” with her husband at the time, Nick Lachey. Though her life seemed so public, nobody knew the dark secrets she kept to herself that was eating at her for so long. In her memoir, “Open Book”, that came out on Feb 4th2020, Jessica shared her story. She reveals that she had been sexually abused as a child by a family friend. She was just 6 years old when the abuse started, which along with the pressure that came with her rising fame, led her into addiction.

Jessica says, “I was killing myself with all the drinking and pills.” Simpson had hit rock bottom back in Nov of 2017 and decided she needed to make a change. She told her friends, “I need to stop. Something's got to stop. And if it's the alcohol that's doing this, and making things worse, then I quit.” She wrote in her memoir, “Giving up the alcohol was easy”. I was mad at that bottle. At how it allowed me to stay complacent and numb.”
